The Night Before

Talked to Jason again. Everything is good, and we think we've got all we need. As Jason said, "its better to find out we need something much closer to when we need it." The latest weather update is that it seems more humid than last year, with a great chance of bugs. Fortunately, the mosquitoes seem under control, so its only the big bugs this year. This may be our last post until after the trip. Unfortunately, its often difficult and painstakingly slow to use the Internet in Chichigalpa. Please keep us in your prayers.

The Day Before

Good news! We heard from Jason and Sara yesterday. Two words.... ITS HOT! But its Nicaragua, so we're prepared. Everything is going according to plan so far. Jason and Sara are making preparations for our arrival at the airport tomorrow. Back home, we are busy packing and doing some final shopping for camp items, or for small comforts from home. We are all excited, and ready to go.

Getting ready!

Saturday night we had our last team meeting -- dinner at Freisheim's. Took care of last-minute plans, and prayed for God to be in the details, safety and travel mercies, and for the people of Santa Maria. We thought we had everything pretty well in hand, but there always seems to be so much left at the end still to do. Jason and Sara left early Monday morning to take care of preparations in Nicaragua -- renting transportation, buying food, etc. We follow on Saturday.

I don't know what communications will be like in Nica. It's always different, and the key word is f-l-e-x-i-b-i-l-i-t-y. If we can get word back to my Communications Liaison (Rachael Buckley), we'll be updating this blog, so please check back just in case!

Our third trip to Santa Maria! The team is as excited as ever to get started. This year we have two new members -- Ellen Bodenheimer and Nathan Rudolph. I don't know if we've been helping them with tales of our former trips, but they laugh right along with us. :-)

Plans for this year include:
VBS -- Theme is Moses and God's power and provision
Men's Bible Study
Projects -- Painting the church, pouring a new cement floor for the kitchen, building a storage shelf for the kitchen

Of course, we will be going up to Las Casitas, the mountain site of the mudslide that decimated the villages there. A special treat for our team will also be visits to Masaya, a local flea and craft market, and Granada, the historic capitol of old Nicaragua.
